Cutting-Edge Technology That Can Reverse The Autism Epidemic

Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) director, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has recently announced that his department has made a national priority of discovering the cause of the autism epidemic and plans on having answers by the end of the year.

This is a worthy effort by the United States government, and one that many feel is long overdue.

We have witnessed the autism rate go from 1:10,000 to the most recent 2025 figure of 1:31.

Though many hypotheses exist for what could be the cause, there is strong documentation of specific metabolic abnormalities that exist in nearly all cases of autism, regardless of the specific trigger.

In 2004, researcher Jill James and colleagues proved their hypothesis that children with autism are metabolically disadvantaged in the context of methylation capacity, which is the body's ability to attach methyl groups to molecules (James, et al 2004).  This process is involved in neurotransmitter synthesis, cell membrane maintenance, glutathione synthesis, and homocysteine clearance.  Another critical function of methylation is the body's ability to regulate genetic expression through a process known as epigenetic control.  This includes the genes involved in detoxification and antioxidant production.

Without robust methylation capacity, the body (and brain) becomes highly susceptible to environmental assaults, including those from chemical toxins, biological pathogens, and physical forces such as electromagnetic fields.

Preventing - and even reversing - autism is possible through the use of therapies directed at boosting methylation capacity, improving antioxidant status, and addressing mitochondrial inefficiencies.

These three components of robust defense against environmental threats comprise a trifecta.  All three respond positively to an increase in methylation capacity.

A recent meta-analysis has finally confirmed what researchers have known for two decades: vitamin B12, when given in a specific protocol, significantly improves methylation capacity in the autism population (Rossignol & Frye, 2021).

These researchers and clinicians knew they could not use capsules or drink mixes because oral delivery of vitamin B12 cannot provide therapeutic benefits.  While oral absorption is adequate for maintaining nutritional status of an otherwise healthy individual, it cannot supply the high doses or controlled release required for therapeutic benefits.

This study draws upon data from the past 20 years and includes incredible findings.  Many of the parents of these children reported the following when their children received vitamin B12 according to the protocol established by the teams of researchers:

  • Improved cognition

  • Skin conditions (such as eczema) less symptomatic
  • More engaged with others and less in their own world
  • Begins to have rational fears and begins to let go of irrational fears
  • Understands feelings
  • Calmer and less easily frustrated
  • May begin to sing for the first time, or increased interest in singing
  • Growth spurt
  • Improved ability to generalize
  • Improved gesturing

  • Increased asking of questions such as "what, where, who, when, and why" or answers with "because"

And those are just the most commonly reported benefits!

That may sound like a lot of benefits to attribute to just one treatment, and we completely understand that skepticism.

We believe that the 2016 findings by Zhang and colleagues, who examined brain tissue of deceased individuals with autism, speak for themselves.  We are grateful for these individuals who donated their bodies for our better understanding of what is going on.  The main findings of this paper (Zhang, et al 2016) include:

  • In autistic subjects, brain levels of vitamin B12 were more than threefold lower than in age-matched controls.
  • The average brain B12 level in children with autism was comparable to levels typically seen in neurotypical adults in their 50s, indicating a premature and significant depletion.
  • Lower vitamin B12 in autistic brains was associated with decreased methionine synthase (MS) activity and elevated homocysteine, suggesting disrupted methylation and redox metabolism, both critical for brain function.
  • The study also linked these B12 deficits to lower levels of the antioxidant glutathione (GSH), which has been previously reported in autism.

This helps explain why high-dose vitamin B12 therapy given as part of a specific protocol has been associated with so many different benefits in children with autism.

We wish it were as simple as taking a daily capsule of vitamin B12 to replete the brain of this vital nutrient, but unfortunately, that is not the case.

Vitamin B12 absorption in the GI tract is facilitated by a protein known as intrinsic factor, which acts as a shuttle from the gut to systemic circulation.  It has been shown that oral absorption is limited to about 10 micrograms per feeding, far short of the dosages used in any clinical trial.

In addition to the absorption problem, researchers believe that there is significant benefit to sustained release of vitamin B12 into systemic circulation, which maintains elevated blood levels and optimizes intracellular absorption.

To overcome these hurdles, we have developed cutting-edge microemulsion transdermal technology that vastly improves B12 absorption compared to oral capsules and powders, allowing for the slow release of high-dose vitamin B12 into systemic circulation.

Spectrum Sciences B12 Protocol capitalizes on these features, bringing you the benefits reported by researchers and clinicians.

Now, with this technology available over the counter, any parent can bring the B12 Protocol to life in their own home.

Let's see what one parent had to say when he started his child on vitamin B12 therapy:

"We have kept meticulous notes on our son's development since starting the vitamin B12 protocol.  On day 2, his mother and I noticed him playing with his toys, but instead of lining them up as he usually did, he was making them walk.  On day 3, while taking a visit to the park, he displayed a noticeable increase in bravery on the playground equipment.  The day after that, his mother left his sight when we were in public as a family, and he shouted “Where’s mommy?” (from a child with barely any word combination at this point in time).  About one week in, he began initiating eye contact, initiating play, initiating affection, etc.  Two weeks in, he pointed at something for the very first time in his life.  Three weeks in, his word combining went from the occasional two-word phrase to multiple, spontaneous three-word phrases.  His mental faculties were brought to life with this treatment, and this growth continues to this day.  Since beginning this life-changing treatment, he has been taking initiative more, asserting himself more, giving more unprompted affection, his conversation skills have improved, he is becoming more outgoing in social situations, and he is noticeably more bright and aware of his surroundings.  He is a happy child with this treatment.  Without it, he is dysregulated, confused, and unhappy...Not only has it increased my son's quality of life, but it has allowed my family to go out in public without tending to constant tantrums, to enjoy family meals without endless crying fits, it has allowed him to be a functional classmate at his school, and the list of examples goes on and on."

Another mom had this to say about her daughter, two months into starting the B12 protocol:

"Shelly went back to school in January after break and is doing so well!  I would say this is the best she has been consistently doing since she was born.  Her energy levels have significantly improved.  Today, we had a full team meeting to discuss her performance and accommodations.  Her classroom teacher, physiotherapist, occupational therapist, speech therapist, play therapist, and her school director all attended.  Every one of them commented on how well she is doing at school, exponentially better the past two months and that she is flourishing.  They all said they found her anxiety to be significantly reduced, her emotional regulation is now age appropriate, and that her fatigue has had a dramatic decrease.  That she is happier and calmer all around.  Every single therapist agreed that she has made a sharp progression over the past two months compared to the past two years of therapies!  Also, her constant eye rubbing has stopped altogether...she is happy and energetic and her sleep has improved...she has gotten sick twice since starting school, and both times were very short-lived and not as intense as previous illnesses."

Another mom had this to say about her teenage son:

"I want to share with all parents a very encouraging success story.  After 10 consecutive years of having elevated MMA (severe B12 deficiency) my teen received a within range MMA result today!!!  We've been doing the protocol for a few months and it is working.  (We've been working on it for years doing other things that never worked).  There is hope to turn things around, for sure!  We switched to Spectrum Sciences oils and it's been life changing for my son!  I know it takes time, work, and faith, but if my son is healing, so can you and your kids."

We followed up with her several weeks later to make sure it wasn't just a temporary benefit she was seeing.  This is what she had to say:

"He's been feeling better and better each week.  I'm so excited for him.  His mood has improved dramatically and also his levels of energy.  He's so much more talkative too...no more brain fog, better immune system, and last but not least his better ability to cope in stressful situations...I truly wish this for all kids and adults that struggle with B12 deficiency.  The oils were truly the missing piece for him."
