Our Ingredients
Our Ingredients
Our updated formulations consist of a carefully selected list of ingredients that work in tandem as part of a nuanced mechanism of transdermal absorption. Compared to our first-generation formulas, these updated formulations are more sophisticated, which confers superior temperature resilience, improved skin tolerance, greater active ingredient stability, and a sustained active ingredient release profile.
Every ingredient that we use is time-tested in topical products and considered safe for daily use on skin. In fact, each product can boast that over 75% of what’s in the bottle consists of food-grade Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS) ingredients, and over half of what’s in all of our bottles consists of ingredients that are ECOCERT Certified and COSMOS Approved.
Spectrum Sciences sources maximal purity ingredients and third-party test our suppliers. Our formulations use pharmaceutical grade ingredients when available.
NONE of our ingredients have been shown to cause cancer when applied topically.
- None of our ingredients are classified as carcinogens by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), National Toxicology Program (NTP), or FDA for topical use.
- All included ingredients are deemed safe as used in topical products, with negative Ames tests (mutagenicity) and no genotoxic or carcinogenic effects in dermal/oral toxicity studies.
- Several of our ingredients, such as rosemary extract, tocopherol (vitamin E), squalane, and amino acids (glutamic acid, arginine, carnitine) are antioxidants or skin-identical compounds with protective effects against oxidative stress (a cancer risk factor); no topical cancer links exist and may actually confer some protection in that context.
- The Environmental Working Group (EWG) lists low cancer concern ratings (1-2/10) across the board for topical exposure; no evidence of tumor promotion or initiation in skin models.
These ingredients are widely used in FDA-approved cosmetics and pharmaceuticals due to their established safety profiles and low irritation potential. We source the highest available purity in our ingredients to make sure you are getting a superior quality product and avoid inadvertent contaminant exposure. We know that you are purchasing our products for your family’s health and well-being and have taken every step to ensure that the benefits are measurable and the risks are minimal.
